AQ Bags was founded in 2004 by myself and friend Carmen Dickison, in the seaside suburb of Seatoun, Wellington, New Zealand.
It evolved from a bag given to me for my birthday, made by my sailmaker husband. We saw a business opportunity after the bag received many compliments.
Carmen’s flair for fashion and love of accessories, together with my design and sewing experience lead to the launch of AQ bags.
The name AQ came about over a coffee at a local café! Reading an article by Karen Walker stating the need for New Zealanders to develop their ambition quotient (AQ). You could test your AQ on line and we found we had plenty of it, therefore a great name for our business!
